Have you ever wondered how it is that God has wired you and what in particular he has gifted or equipped you to do?

As part of the recent sermons on 1 Corinthians 12, PBC is making available an online Spiritual Gift and Personality Profile.  This test is designed to help individuals understand the way God has made and gifted you.

The test will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.  Once completed, you will receive a detailed personalized report which includs a significant amount of information which you can review on your own.  Additionally, in the coming weeks, Pastor Chet will be holding a  group sessions to help people understand both their results and how those results fit in with the wider community at PBC.

Complete the form below and you will be registered for the test.  It will take a couple days to process your request.  Once processed, you will receive an email containing a link to the online website and additional information.

To that end, Pascack Bible Church is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as our Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM). The DCM will be responsible for the development and implementation of ministries that specifically advance the mission and vision of Pascack Bible Church among children grades 5 and younger. That vision, expressed in its simplest form is:
     Helping people Worship God, Love One Another and Serve the World

Offered initially as part-time, 25 hours/week position, the DCM will be the staff member having primary responsibility to equip our many dedicated volunteers to effectively minister to children.  While currently we have very active ministries on Sunday mornings, an annual Vacation Bible School and other special events, it is hoped that the new DCM will create a vision of expanded spiritual impact in the lives of children and develop ministries which support that vision.

This year our high school summer trip will be A LOT closer as Christ In Youth’s MOVE conference is back in the Northeast.  Last year this trip was life changing for many students and we look forward to seeing what God does this year.

“A Walk With Jesus”
In conjunction with the three other churches in Hillsdale, we reflect on the crucifixion of Christ walking through Hillsdale while bearing a cross.  Along the way we stop for a series of scripture readings and a  brief time of reflection.  This Walk begins at Pascack Bible Church and after we cover about one mile, we end at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

“Tenebrae Service”
This is perhaps one of the most spiritual powerful services of our year.  The word Tenebrae means “Shadows.”  As the name implies, this service focuses on the what could be called the darkest point in Christ’s ministry on earth, his crucifixion.  The service features the reading of a number of Bible passages which both predicted Christ’s crucifixion and provide a historical recording of it. Those readings are supplimented by special choir music and congregational hymns.  As the evening goes on, the room will be progressively darkened reinforcing the somber, reflective feeling of the readings.  Along with communion, there the opportunity for participants to drive a nail into a cross, in recognition of the reality that it was our sin for which Christ died.

“Sunrise Service”
@ Demarest Farms, corner of Hillsdale Avenue and Van Emburg Road
Recalling the women that went early in the morning to the tomb of Christ, we gather to recall their great joy in finding the tomb empty and that “Christ is risen from the dead.”  During this informal outdoor service, we will stand at the crest of a hill and allow the sunrise to reinforce the message that “The Son of God Did Rise.”  The service last approximately 25 minutes.

“Easter Services”
With a great sense of joy and celebration, we remember the resurrection of Christ as the defining truth that he has offered us new life.  Featuring familiar Easter hymns, other contemporary music and a special Easter choir, it is certainly one of our most anticipated of services.  Near the beginning of our 10:45 service, children are given opportunity to adorn a cross with flowers, signifying the reality that new life has come to that which was once  dead.  Nursery  and children’s programming is available for children grade pre-K and younger.

During the month of March 2013, we as a congregation are working to make a tangible difference in the lives of people living in regions of the world affected by malaria.  For the small gift of just $6.00, we can provide a mosquito net large enough to cover the bed of three children or their parents. And the more nets we provide, the more families we can help.  Our goal is supply at least 700 nets.  You can find out more about the ministry supplying these nets here.

During the month of March, we are challenging every individual and family to look for ways to redirect $6.00 you would normally spend on something for yourself and instead use it to purchase a net for someone else.  It could be as easy as skipping two cups of Starbucks coffee, or one sandwich out at lunch.  Thinking bigger, a family could decide to not go out to eat one evening and purchase numerous nets instead.  Perhaps a night at the movies could be traded in for four nets, or even more.  You get the idea.

Because we want to encourage our children to participate, they are being challenged to seek out ways to do extra chores around the house or for a neighbor as a way to personally serve other children in a far off land.  Each Sunday, our KidVenture ministry will give the kids a chance to personally deposit their gifts into a specially made offering box.  Then that box will be moved to our church lobby so that older kids and adults can also participate as they come to our worship services.

Certainly, those of you who would like to make a special gift at Easter towards this project may do so by including it with your regular giving and indicating on the offering envelop or check memo that it is for the Easter Malaria Project.

This year we will be using the Seek God for the City 2013 prayer guide.  Each day the guide will offer a theme of the day, including an Old Testament and New Testament readings, and some specific ideas of how to pray.  Along with praying for God to do amazing  things in our local communities, the guide will invite us to prayer for several specific countries each day, that God would do amazing things there as well.

This may be a new experience for some of you, both using a prayer guide or praying every day for a long period time.  We want to encourage you to take the challenge of joined with literally hundreds of other PBC people and have an expectation that God will do great things as we pray.

Who:  Students entering the 6th grade through 8th

What:  We are hosting our own retreat in Shiloh Bible Camp.  The setup will be typical of most retreats.  We will have worship, games, outdoor activities, free time, and we will spend some time in God’s Word.

When:  The retreat is August 16-18 .  More details to come.

Cost:  This event is $135.  This covers housing, food, and transportation.

Registration:  Deadline to register is June 21.  Students must turn in a $25 deposit and medical form to secure their spots.  The remaining balance is due August 5.

A Sermon Series, Sundays in April 2012

It appears from everything we think and do that there is a yearning within us for something more out of life than we are currently experiencing.  The reality is that even in the midst of the greatest pleasures, experiences or accomplishments, we have our eye on something out there that is just a little bit more than what we have now.  Is it ever wrong to think that way?  Is it ever right to think that way? This series will focus on how a Godly perspective on life can actually lead us to better places in life than we might possibly imagine.

We will look at the implication embracing Jesus’ promise to give us life in the full has on our  work and leisure as we pursue a life of meaning.
